Method of work for Drilling out Cartridge Heaters

  1. The smallest drill is fitted to the extension bar and the bottom of the heater is drilled.
    1. The hole is blown out using an air line whilst using the vacuum cleaner to catch the swarf and dust.
    2. The size of the hole is increased up to 12mm using different sized drills.
  2. The hole is blown out using an air line whilst using the vacuum cleaner to catch the swarf and dust.
  3. The 16mm drill is used to remove outer shell of the heater to the depth of the 12mm drilled section.
    1. The swarf is cleared every few millimeters (~4mm) by withdrawing the drill (still rotating) and then continuing to drill.
    2. Once dust is detected when drilling , the outer section has been removed.
    3. The hole is blown out using an air line whilst using the vacuum cleaner to catch the swarf and dust.
    4. The 16mm drill may need re-sharpening.
  4. Try drifting out using 16mm studding (optional).
  5. Repeat from step 1
